April 2014 Splinters from the Board

At the April Board meeting, we heard reports from the three recent Board initiatives around building challenges (Task Site Force, Grove Street Committee, and Listening & Learning Sessions). In brief, there’s progress on many fronts, from a couple of recent site visits to potential properties, to several repairs and updates in the current building and attendance by over 60 people at the first Listening & Learning session about our Operating Budget, what it does and doesn’t fund and how we see our values reflected in it.

The rest of the meeting included a variety of actions such as planning the April 27 Congregational Meeting; encouraging planners for Yankee Springs to review the Safe Church guidelines, especially regarding minors without parents present; approval of spending for the Music Director search; and allocation of funds from the 2013 surplus to 2014 Ministerial Internship and 2014 Chalice Camp Director (both requests from Program Council). We began a discussion about whether and how to include funds for a Ministerial Intern in the regular, recurring Operating Budget.
