May 2014 Splinters from the Board

Prior to the May meeting, the Board listened to a presentation by Kevin Tarsa, Interim Minister of Music, about copyright regulations for using music in worship services and other church events. The Board discussed the complexities and challenges of the regulations.

At the meeting, new officers were elected/installed: President Kathy (Kay) Lovell, Past President Linda Anderson, President-Elect Dan Dettweiler, and Secretary Mary Elaine Kiener.

We heard reports from the three recent Board initiatives around building challenges (Task Site Force, Grove Street Committee, and Listening & Learning Sessions). In brief, there are progress and planning on many fronts.

We discussed the recent $100,000 gift to the church from a generous anonymous donor, to be used “where it’s needed most.” Kay Lovell, Chris Clampitt, and Annemarie Hodges will serve as the core of a task force to hire a consultant for stewardship (up to $10,000 allocated) and to create a larger task force with broad representation to develop a plan for most effectively using this gift.

The new Director of Music, Lyle Brown (known as LB), will start July 1, and the Board discussed preliminary needs to facilitate the transition.

There will not be a meeting in June. The Board will meet next on July 30 (the fifth Sunday in July).
