May 2016 Splinters from the Board

We met in our temporary office space graciously made available to us by Winalee and Ron Zeeb, owners of Heartdance Studio, to continue working on issues related to our transition to the new building. We had hoped to be meeting our space, but as of the meeting, we were still waiting for an occupancy permit.

During this meeting, the Board of Trustees welcomed new members Jennifer Castner and Joe Stuart and elected Mary Elaine Kiener as President-Elect, Joe Stuart to Secretary, and returned Chris Clampitt to his previously held position, Vice President of Finance. With great adulation for his outstanding service to the congregation, the Board recognized Dan Dettweiler’s ending term as President. He is now taking on the role of Past President. He passed the gavel to incoming President Barry Carr.

The Board was updated on the progress of inspections and issues that might affect permanent occupancy. There are still issues to be addressed, depending on how regulations are interpreted.

Mary Elaine provided a summary of how discussions with Head Start program are progressing. Currently, Head Start is considering preparing a proposal to fund all renovations and to pay a modest amount of rent. The Board passed a motion of support of continued negotiations along these lines.

The Board discussed the outline of a comprehensive building use policy. This is needed to provide clear guidance about when rent is charged for the building and the operational expenses any rent would need to cover.

Discussion of the Donor Art Wall project centered around on how best to acknowledge the many people who have donated time and money to make the dream for a new building a reality. A consensus emerged around an art piece that is specific to the current capital campaign. Kathy Lovell will assist the artists in getting a specific proposal before proceeding.
